Minecraft Inspiration: Boys Can Wear Pink Series 4

Welcome to my stop on the Boy's Can Wear Pink tour! Can you believe this is season 4? Incredible, right? It's our 4th year participating in the tour! Check out our other boys can wear pink posts here, here and here!

Seriously, it was the very beginning of January and little man came up to me. Mom, I don't want to do a 'wear pink' this year. Broke my momma heart! I look forward to this every year! (so far my favorite is season two).  So, of course, I ask him why. "I don't know, I just don't like pink". Heartbroken and still wondering why he doesn't like pink, I left it at that. At the end of January, we were getting into brainstorming the valentines box this year and he is non-stop talking about Minecraft. All the characters. And I wondered what he would think of a pig shirt. Simple, light pink with the face of a Minecraft pig on the front. He was excited! "And we could do the tail and ears on the back!"

Score one for mom! We are still going strong! Pattern used was the Vintage V-Neck by BlankSlate Patterns.

And, as it turns out you can't really see the ears on the pig. At least not according to any of the pictures after performing a google search. So we went will simple freezer paper stencils (I have yet to jump on the vinyl bandwagon with a cutter like a new cricut or silhouette.)  The pig face truely is both amusing and terrifying. And the fabric? Light pink was not sufficient.

Little man helped iron on the freezer paper and did the painting himself. I think it adds to the character of the shirt. Not to mention the pixelation of the game itself. Kind of?

Berry Bunch - Boys Can Wear Pink Season 4

We had a nice conversation about the color pink and how it is just a color. By picking inspiration that intrigues and he is interested in the color has become one for boys. I couldn't imagine having this kind of conversation with him 4 years ago, I was hoping he would always enjoy the color. At least, for now, he understands that it is not a 'girl's color' but just a color.

Berry Bunch - Boys Can Wear Pink Season 4

He told me the fabric choice was perfect (it was out of the stash) and he was glad he decided that one instead of the light pink.

He tells me, "anyone can wear pink mom, even you!"

Someone's Coming in January: The Kids Have New Shirts {Gender Reveal}

I cannot believe that I haven't shared with everyone yet! We have an announcement to make! And I made the kids new shirts to celebrate!

The Berry Bunch: Someone's Coming in January: The Kids Have New Shirts

Coming in January 2016 (give or take) the kids will be getting another sister! (you know...90% sure...)

We are super excited! I loved the shirt I made Little man when we announced the impending arrival of the little lady, I just had to make some for the kids this time around too (it just took me forever to finish!)

BIG SISTER * IN TRAINING

BIG BROTHER * TRAINER
I used the Rival Raglan by GYCT Designs (affiliate links). I made both long sleeves for little man and 3/4 for little lady so the kids can wear them throughout the winter. Since it's not too cold most of the time. What was I thinking today though? Poor kids' noses were turning red!

The back has the year for her arrival. (which I thought I took a picture of, but apparently not) Since both these guys were nearly 2 weeks late, I figure January wasn't a safe bet since the anticipated date is within the last few days...

The Berry Bunch: Someone's Coming in January: The Kids Have New Shirts

I know for sure little man is super excited, but little girl? I am not fully sure she understands. :) But I know we are excited! More and more as the days go on I think she is starting to get it. It helps that she is around babies often enough though too...

But what can I say, she is following suit with her brother...

The Berry Bunch: Someone's Coming in January: The Kids Have New Shirts

I have been utterly exhausted. The Halloween costume sewing drove me nuts and since Monday I have had this awful cold. I'm just relieved that I finally have this done! Granted standing outside for the 10 minutes to take pictured in the odd, but nice, cold we had today probably wasn't the best idea...

And I had to have little man take a couple with the 28 week bump...

The Berry Bunch: Someone's Coming in January: The Kids Have New Shirts

Not bad for a 4 year old...

Except maybe, being mid-sentence... Oh well!

Until next time,

Round-Up: DIY St. Patrick's Day Shirts

For the last 6 years, since the hubby and I have been married, I have bought St. Patricks Day shirts. This year was the first year where I really sat back and considered making one for the kids. I have one up and coming for Baby Girl, but as for little man I am a bit stumped. I decided to compile some of the ones that I enjoyed and thought would be fairly easy. But I guess I kind of expected there to be more out there! There really isn't a whole lot.

Most of them are freezer paper stencils, but check them out and let me know, what do you do?

6. go the kiss me route with this Freezer Paper Stenciled Shirt from Lovely Indeed

You can use word processor to type up your own image.

Here are some awesome Celtic fonts you can download for free (check it out, there are tons!)

I have lots of ideas for my little man now, and I am totally digging all those fonts and I might just go on ahead and make my own printable to freezer paper stencil for a shirt for him!

Check back later (Monday) for what I made for Baby Girl!

Do you do special outfits for your kids for St. Patrick's Day? What do you do?

Clothes for a Baby Shower: Locally Grown Baby Bodysuit & Bass Fishing Raglan

I had a series of baby showers over this last weekend which made it a super crazy busy weekend! I love giving handmade items. Putting love and effort into something for someone to use and love.

The Bodysuit:
I love this baby bodysuit outfit that I made for a friend's baby shower! Seriously, is it not the cutest thing ever?

Locally Grown Baby Bodysuit: Peek-A-Boo Pattern Shop Lullaby Bodysuit: The Berry Bunch

I used the Lullaby Bodysuit and Lap Tee pattern from Peek-A-Boo Pattern Shop (affiliate links).

I am discovering Google Drive even more and the image creator with it and used that to create the freezer paper stencil.

The cool thing with images is you can print them as pictures, make the size that you want to fit the item you are making. I printed this one on the 5x7.

I used white folk art multi-surface paint, but some people suggested to use bleach. Though I am not sure how well bleach will work with fabric and freezer paper stenciling. Doesn't matter, I love it!

How fun this! I am working on getting a few more in the works for other cities around the states. :)

The Raglan:

I used the Rival Raglan by GYCT Designs. (affiliate link) (one of my absolute favorite pattern designers!). Such a fun patterns and so easy! I love the fish! The details my hubby did were amazing!

Bass Fishing: GYCT Designs Rival Raglan: The Berry Bunch

This is freezer paper stenciled too! The hook, line and fly are not. The hubby did those by hand. I used folk art multi-surface paint for the green and the rest are fabric markers, but applied by a toothpick.

Bass Fishing: GYCT Designs Rival Raglan: The Berry Bunch

I think it works great with the camo sleeves!

Both were made from re-purposing some old shirts excepts the onesie binding and the sleeves on the ralglan. I'm pretty excited about how they turned out and I hope that the parents-to-be enjoy them!

Happy Sewing!

How To Train Your Dragon Toothless Inspired: Thumbs Up Tee by OUSM Designs {pattern test and review}

Little man loves his Thumbs Up Tee by OUSM Designs! I did not expect him to be so enthused and enamored with having the thumb hole in the cuff of his sleeve, but something is almost ninja about having the thumb through the cuff.... Add to it this awesome Toothless inspired outline, and it is a win for any 4 year old boy!

Thumbs Up Tee by OUSM Designs - The Berry Bunch

I will admit. The cuffs were so confusing to accomplish, at first. I may have had to rip seams from them once or twice. But that is only because I got my right and wrong sides confused. OUSM Designs created this incredible helpful video, and I have to say that I wish I watched it first!

Thumbs Up Tee by OUSM Designs - The Berry Bunch

Once you have the construction down with the cuff, it is so easy! And, it is surprisingly quick! Not as fast as a standard cuff, but still quick considering all seams are hidden within the cuff! Yay for clean lines!

Thumbs Up Tee by OUSM Designs - The Berry Bunch

Speaking of being almost ninja like, this shirt requires showing off some ninja moves while taking pictures... With sound effects and all!

I have been meaning to create a toothless inspired shirt for little man since I started planning his birthday. I couldn't bring myself to create the freezer paper stencil for just any standard shirt. It needed to be awesome. When I signed up for this pattern test, I knew this was it. The sleeves on this shirt just fit in perfectly, the thumb hole just happens to be 'Astrid like' adding to the element of "How to Train Your Dragon" inspiration!

Thumbs Up Tee by OUSM Designs - The Berry Bunch

The white and black fabrics are all re-purposed from my old clothing! Turning something old into something new is so much fun! The red was an interlock fabric that I already had on hand. Hurrah for not having to run to the store!

I love the customize-ability with freezer paper. These free printables from Confetti Sunshine worked out perfectly for this shirt!

The diagrams for the pattern are easy to follow and clear. Printing is one of my favorite features as you can print only the size you want! It's amazing to be able to print only one size at a time. No cutting, taping, tracing and cutting some more. just trim, tape and cut!

Freezer Paper Stenciling: Harry Potter Ravenclaw Outfits

The Berry Bunch: Freezer Paper Stenciling: Harry Potter Ravenclaw Outfits

I have never done freezer paper stencils before and have no idea why I waited to do them until now. Granted I was not aware of them until fairly recently. This would have worked so much better for littleman's "only child expiring" shirt blogged about here.

Crafting Con

Since I needed something to take my mind off the Star Wars outfits, I decided to jump in and join the linky party for the Harry Potter CraftingCon. Have you seen it yet? You should check out the awesome contestants and their wonderful outfits. Also, all the great projects that are being linked up!

Check out the contestants at Mae and K
Check out tutorials and guest posts at Friends Stitched Together

I took a quiz for my own house placement in Harry Potter and was sorted into Ravenclaw, so what better way to contribute and link in for Harry Potter than to create something using that house? And since my sew time is taken up by other projects, I needed and wanted to try Reynolds Freezer Paper *affiliate* stenciling (seriously, so many tutorials on Google, it's crazy)...
The Berry Bunch: Freezer Paper Stenciling: Harry Potter Ravenclaw Outfits
I printed and traced onto Reynolds Freezer Paper *affiliate* (you know, in case I wanted to use the design again), and cut and ironed. Little man painted. He was so excited to paint. Poor thing has been bugging me to paint. Perfect opportunity! :)
I found the image for the house mascot here. I had some difficulty on what colors to use. Go with the movie (blue and silver?) or go with the book (blue and bronze?) and ultimately decided to go with the movie. 1. I was rushing and did not sew up the kids clothes. Bronze is difficult to come by. 2. I got some paint but little man was not happy with the idea that I would be doing some painting...
*update* I used the lettering from here.
Here is little man's outfit.

He wasn't too keen on taking pictures, and since it is 100+ degrees outside, taking pictures out there isn't really happening...

And, baby girl's outfit kind of. The shorts don't really fit yet, still a little too big. Not to mention the freezer paper didn't stick as well because there were so many wrinkles gathers. But, little man even painted her shirt and chose placement! I love it! :)

It is so hard taking pictures of a little girl who just wants to hold your hand and will just as easily scream as cry until she gets your hand. Not to mention little man had gone down for a nap as soon as she had woken up. I'm really excited!
Check out the other link-ups and some incentive if you haven't yet. If you could make something Harry Potter themed, what would you make?
