Happy Easter: Baby's First!

Did y'all have a Happy Easter? We spent some time with family, got home really late... It was a good day, fun. I did not take many pictures. My lower back was hurting, so getting up and moving around was not happening. But I did ask a cousin to take some pictures for us using my camera. These two (we didn't take too many) were my favorite!

I love the smile on little man's face and how he is holding his sister's foot. :) Too Precious!

It was a halfway homemade Easter. Nikolai was wearing his Number 9 Trouser's by Shwin Designs. I had made them for the pattern flip and blogged about them here and you can see him wearing them on his 3rd birthday here. I haven't figured out collars yet, so I have not really attempted too much for shirts in that yet... Any patterns or suggestions that explain the color step-by-step would be greatly appreciated!

Samara is wearing her Kenzie's Party Dress by EYMM that I had made for the blog tour. You can see that post here. I am surprised that she can still fit in it, I thought she was growing like a weed and expected her to grow out of it, but nope! :) I was going to take the elastic out the bottom, but she was just too cute!

And last was one that I haven't shared with you yet... My skirt. It's the Rabbit Rabbit Creation's Strip Quilt Skirt ... Man, I've been slacking! It's amazing what not feeling good does...

The skirt picture was when I tested it. I love the look with the shirt, so I went with that for Easter. :) You could probably see from the family photo that my back was hurting, I was just standing weird. Kind of bummed that I didn't take more, but oh well... I got some and that is enough. :) And we had fun celebrating with friends and family and that is the most important thing! :)

Shwin Designs: Number 9 Trousers: Cargo and Removable Dinosaur Lining {Flip This Pattern}

Ok. I have been needing to make little man some pants and I want to re-purpose some of our old pants. I have a huge stack of them sitting in our bedroom just taking up space and looking... well... Messy...

And, lets face it, even though we live in the desert the winters can get pretty chilly, especially when you are used to 100+ degree weather. Also, I want to take Nikolai to a part of the city where the houses all decorate with Christmas lights... Walking around at night; it's just too cold for a 2 (almost 3) year old.

So, what better than lined pants? Removable lined pants! I was going to use fleece but as I was going through my fabric stash we saw some dinosaur flannel. How wonderful is that? Nikolai was so happy when he saw that! Brandon asked if he wanted pants made with it and Nikolai just beamed! So, dinosaur flannel it is then!

The Shwin Designs Number 9 Trousers are fairly simple to put together and lend themselves to so many options! 

Here is what I did...

I repurposed an old pair of Brandon's khakis that no longer fit (This Mama Makes Stuff has a pretty good tutorial). I kept the zipper and front crotch seam, but cut the back at the pockets. I added side cargo pockets (perfect for storing toys)...

I love how the cuffs at the bottom look when they are together. I added snaps at the waist under the belt loops to attach the lining. Good thing it was a bitty chilly from the wind outside today, otherwise it would have been too hot (we have been in the upper 70's this week, hurrah desert weather!)...

I made a second pair out of the dinosaur flannel and kept the slant pockets but forwent the welt pocket on the back to cut down on bulk. I did a snap instead of the button in the front. Nikolai loves his dinosaur pants!

*update 12/23/2013 - he has worn both pants separately twice so far (they are the ones that he goes to if they are clean) and has worn them together today to get a Christmas tree. He was so excited, "They work, mommy! I'm not cold!" he had exclaimed! :) I am so excited and proud! :)

Peek-A-Boo Hangout Hoodie Turned Onesie {Flip This Pattern}

A while ago (over a year ago) I discovered the Peek-a-Boo Pattern Shop and loved what I saw but never bought anything. "Why?" you ask? I don't know.

I love her patterns. 

Now I own only 5. I say only because I want more and it is a miracle that I haven't purchased them all! How can you go wrong? They are wonderful! And range from 3-6mos to about a size 10-12, on average! So much better than the big company's patterns...

One of the patterns that I have I finally made. The Hangout Hoodie.

I wanted to make it for Samara, but shirts just ride up while holding her. So instead I wanted to do a onesie.

But before I started that I needed to try it regularly first. And both were re-purposed old shirts of mine! I love re-purposing! Enter little man...

I loved how it turned out. And not having a serger I think I did pretty darn well.

So then, enter the Onesie attempt. Not bad if I do say so myself... Brandon said it looked store bought! Awesome!

It is a bit big, but then I made it to fit Samara to the end of the winter! She is currently in a size 0-3 months, though quickly outgrowing that size. I made this one about a 6 month size. And she has a big butt when sporting the cloth diapers! :)

I have since added extra snaps to the bottom so it closes better. And I think my little girl looks just adorable in the hoodie!

I just used a current onesie I had and traced down the shirt 6 month size to the bottom. I also trimmed about a 1/4" on both sides of the front and back (1" all the way around) because my kiddos are so skinny! It makes it more fitted that way (the way most onesies are).

Who can resist those adorable blue eyes?

I think I need to make a pair of matching leggings! I feel so proud!

Yup, definitely need to make her a pair of leggings to make it an outfit! 

And the pattern works for both boys and girls? Score!
