Boys Can Wear Pink Season 5!

"But, Pink is a girl's color" ...

Oh, my son. Have the previous 4 years not taught you anything? Pink is just a color. It does not belong to either gender.

After all. If Jason Momoa can pull off pink, and not just pink but pink Velvet, then any guy can wear pink!

Welcome to my stop and the last day of the "Boys Can Wear Pink" series! Such some awesome outfits this year. Don't forget to check them out after reading through this post!

Seriously though, 5 years ago Handmade Boy brought about the Boys Can Wear Pink series and it is still just as amazing!

Check out the past years we have made up by clicking on the corresponding picture! My little guy has grown in the past 5 years! And this year we added a little one!

What I sewed up this year is inspired by some finds from online. And my need to be carefree and worry-free. And don't mind my quick phone photos. It's been a whirlwind of events here testing my patience to make these "no worries" shirts! Missing camera, a baby not sleeping. But I did not give up! They are done! And, in true mommy fashion, I think my boys are cute!

So Shaka stenciled color-blocked tanks are just what seemed to fit the bill!

My big guy's top is a Maui Muscle Tee from Peek-A-Boo Pattern Shop. I color blocked in the pink and blue horizontal stripes.

My little guy's romper is the Romperall from Peek-A-Boo Pattern Shop.

And in true worry-free fashion, I totally got confused on the stenciling and put the Shaka on the back of the romper. I did not realize however until it was complete and after we wore it for a day (before I had taken pictures even!) I almost put his in the middle and I think I should have.

I did not fully think through freezer paper stenciling on a seam!

The entire time I was sewing up these outfits I had a song Husband and I learned on a bus ride to a luau while we were honeymooning on Oahu. "Just hang loose, and just have fun. Sitting on the beach lying in the sun"...  Oh, how I would love to be by a beach right now...

My big guy is excited to have a "no worries" shirt. And one that matches his beloved baby brother to boot!

Minecraft Inspiration: Boys Can Wear Pink Series 4

Welcome to my stop on the Boy's Can Wear Pink tour! Can you believe this is season 4? Incredible, right? It's our 4th year participating in the tour! Check out our other boys can wear pink posts here, here and here!

Seriously, it was the very beginning of January and little man came up to me. Mom, I don't want to do a 'wear pink' this year. Broke my momma heart! I look forward to this every year! (so far my favorite is season two).  So, of course, I ask him why. "I don't know, I just don't like pink". Heartbroken and still wondering why he doesn't like pink, I left it at that. At the end of January, we were getting into brainstorming the valentines box this year and he is non-stop talking about Minecraft. All the characters. And I wondered what he would think of a pig shirt. Simple, light pink with the face of a Minecraft pig on the front. He was excited! "And we could do the tail and ears on the back!"

Score one for mom! We are still going strong! Pattern used was the Vintage V-Neck by BlankSlate Patterns.

And, as it turns out you can't really see the ears on the pig. At least not according to any of the pictures after performing a google search. So we went will simple freezer paper stencils (I have yet to jump on the vinyl bandwagon with a cutter like a new cricut or silhouette.)  The pig face truely is both amusing and terrifying. And the fabric? Light pink was not sufficient.

 Little man helped iron on the freezer paper and did the painting himself. I think it adds to the character of the shirt. Not to mention the pixelation of the game itself. Kind of?

We had a nice conversation about the color pink and how it is just a color. By picking inspiration that intrigues and he is interested in the color has become one for boys. I couldn't imagine having this kind of conversation with him 4 years ago, I was hoping he would always enjoy the color. At least, for now, he understands that it is not a 'girl's color' but just a color.

He told me the fabric choice was perfect (it was out of the stash) and he was glad he decided that one instead of the light pink.

He tells me, "anyone can wear pink mom, even you!"

I love this kid...

Boys Can Wear Pink v. 3

Welcome to our stop on the Boys Can Wear Pink tour!

Eeep! So much excitement for the Boys Can Wear Pink tour this year!  This is the third year, and our third year participating! You can check out our previous posts here and here.

This year I went simple. Little man has the Classic Polo from Peek-A-Boo Pattern shop (check out the affiliate link here) and I decided to do pink for the placket and underside of the collar. He picked out his button snap color.

This is my second polo ever. and I am pretty excited how it turned out. The collar looks like it hangs pretty well and I love the pop of pink that comes out from underneath!

He wanted to wear it to school to show all his friends his new shirt that has pink and that his momma made for him.

And somehow, of course, the collar became some form of ninja face mask thing

I added a side vent too, because it's just cool and polo shirts scream side vent. My first time sewing one in on knits.

I love the color combo of the blue and pink together. I was going to darn a pair of pants that have a hole in the knee using matching blue and pink embroidery thread, but I cannot find my thread *darn*. A project for when my craft space is a little tidied up.
I'm excited how it turned out, and it's always a win when the kiddos love the me-mades too.
